i carry stones to help me get back home

Performance as part of Performance.Discuss, hosted by Avia Moore & Thea Fitz-James at Solar Stage, February 8, 2018

I gave myself a stick & poke tattoo and talked about things I've been learning this year about what "place" and "home" means:

1. Places are constituted, they are projects
2. Globalization flattens places into "space" in order to eat/consume/capitalize from them
3. Places shape how we move through them which affects how we move, how we are moved
4. The word "emplacement"
5. Our attachment to places is one of those seemingly private attachments that makes us public/collective (credit to lauren berlant on that one)
6. Remoteness can justify violence
7. Places and bodies hold memories better than our brains alone...walking, moving in the world, sensuous experience are valid modes of producing knowledge. (I'm curious about repetition, returning, tattoo, as a mode of memory storing and renewal.)

This is one iteration of a longer solo piece I'm working on about masculinity, place, and white supremacist culture/the alt right. It's still in progress, but more coming...
